20th January 2009Label re-engineering delivers for distribution hub

SPM was called in to help at a distribution hub handling more than a dozen truck-loads of returned products every single day, supporting a field engineering team more than 5,000 strong.

Each product being returned to the hub was identified by the engineer accordingly to one of a half-a-dozen categories – new, old, damaged, wrongly ordered and so on. But the existing label system made this fiddly, difficult to fill out and difficult to read, leading to low completion rates and handling errors in the system.

SPM engineered a completely new label solution, featuring easy-peel transparent labels and clear colour-coding. The new system has resulted in increased completions, fewer handling errors and a significant improvement in operational efficiency – a huge return from one simple label re-engineering project.
