GHS and CLP Chemical Labelling Standards

We supply label printing systems and label supplies that fully comply with the new GHS and CLP chemical labelling standards:

GHS (Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals – worldwide standard as developed by the UN)
CLP (Classification, Labelling and Packaging – European regulation which aligns Europe to the worldwide GHS regulations)

These new chemical labelling standards will eventually replace the current CHIP4 regulations (Chemical Hazard Information and Packaging for Supply)

The new GHS and CLP regulations can be both complex and confusing, in short all chemical SUBSTANCES must be compliant by December 2010 while all chemical MIXTURES must be compliant by June 2015.

The major differences relating to the required format of the new GHS and CLP compliant labels is that the current orange square “haz chem” warning symbols with black warning logos will be replaced with new style “hazard and precautionery” red diamond warning symbols with black warning logos.

It will no longer be acceptable to use “generic” labels that have numerous warning boxes pre-printed and then the label is over-printed leaving some blank.

Under the new regulations you are not allowed to have empty warning boxes on your label, each label must have the correct number of warning boxes that are specific to that particular chemical, to leave blank warning boxes will no longer be acceptable, thus preventing the use of one generic warning label.

We are able to supply label printers, software and label supplies that are fully GHS and CLP compliant, so for further help and advice please do not hesitate to call one of our friendly team now on 0161 872 5355
